Recalibration
Every so often I totally restructure various aspects of my world. This week I'm working on some improvements of my web presence, changing some details pertaining to my vocational interests, working on my exit strategy from the Stevens Point, and getting a full body wax job (Ha Ha - just kidding) though I think I would enjoy it. All my websites are offline this week except for In Back of Beyond so if you were redirected here that's the reason.
Someone once said; You either make dust or eat dust. I don't like eating dust. The dust has been flying this week so I advise not to get behind me or you'll soil your face. Standing beside me or in front is no problem. I will even hold your hand if that pleases you. So bear with me as I update my mental processes and break out some new technology from my bag of tricks. Change is good and J.K gets ornery when he feels bored and stale. Once I master something I always move on to a new challenge for better or worse....

Roosters in the Hen House
** This post (like many) is intended to be more of an analysis of myself than a critique of others. All boys and most men are pretty boastful especially when drunk. This Rooster is no different.
The folly of youth is the topic for today. I've been abnormally social the past week with the 20 something age group, mostly males in that age bracket but a nice collection of young ladies also. All in good fun. One constant in these social situations is the young man who really thinks he's big time tough "The Rooster in the Hen House" is what I call them. Nothing new, one in every crowd it seems. You know the type - the testosterone laden " boy" (not quite man yet) with big ego whose every comment and action centers around his perceived "machismo". All fairly good young men but just a bit too full of themselves for their own good - considering they really have not done anything in their short lives. I find these boys both humorous and depressing.
I've said a few times, " Oh how I wish I was 20 again", I now take back those words. I would rather be old and wise than young and stupid any day. It takes one to know one, yes a few years ago I was young and stupid and thought I was pretty damn tough. No doubt I still have a bit of "swagger" to my persona. Guilty as charged....
One constant I've observed as the years pass by is that the young tough guys of yesterday are the pathetic cripples of tomorrow haggling with their insurance providers and the Social Security administration over long term disability payment. The big "bull dudes" that used to lift hundreds of pounds all seem to blow out their backs or knee's. I remember feeling like I was invincible once too. Now I know better. Getting old sucks...... But also can be quite liberating.....
Another one of my posts that are going to offend a few people, but no worries. I've been "knocked down to size" many times in my life and can back up any words and actions in these pages. Being a man is far more than bench pressing 300 pounds or shagging whores that are stupid enough to fall for "boy rhetoric". Youth is fleeting and life's lesson's come hard. The value of a strong brain far outweighs a strong back as time goes on. Obviously it's not cool these days to try to impress with intellect.
Thanks boys for making me realize this.
Don't make me kick some ass!! Ha Ha Ha!!!!

Cubs Take Control
The Chicago Cubs moved into FIRST PLACE!!! in the National League Central race. Yes!!!
In other news - I've got a headache and ghastly beer farts from partying with the boys last night. Thanks Phat Tony for the hospitality and for letting me pitch my tent in your back yard last night. I just love sleeping under the stars. No visitors.

Shooting Blanks
Every time I sit down and try to compose a meaningful post my mind goes blank. Lot's going on but I guess I don't feel like sharing. Selfish? Or maybe I've finally learned to keep my mouth shut.....

Washing Away the Sins
Rained out today so doing a few domestic chores to make the world better. My top priority was laundry - mission accomplished - I now have clean socks and underwear once again. Simple pleasures are the best....

One Small Step for Man......
Can't believe it's the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing. It seems like it was just yesterday. Pretty thrilling stuff for a wild little boy in 1969 - pretty thrilling even in 2009 for that matter. Time really flies.
Kinda got choked up thinking about Walter Cronkite's recent passing. A man who had an extraordinary career as a journalist, and covered the lunar landing brilliantly, as well as a myriad of other historical events in his long career. If I could pick one "voice" for this nation it would be Walter for sure. A legend in the truest sense.
Getting ready for an evening fishing adventure with Catfish and the Sexy Bait Girl. Should be a nice evening to be out on yonder river. Caught a few Catfish on Sunday and hoping to duplicate my success tonight and maybe keep a few for a fish fry.
Wish us luck!

At the Park and In the Dark
Oh my! Can't believe a week has gone by since I last posted. Time flies even if your not having all that much fun. In the "Summer groove" which I love because I can take my work outside and deal with the mundane details of my world in a park setting and sometimes even out on the river fishing. My office, which is beneath the ground, is the last place I want to be on most days. It is cool down there however. Just working and playing just a little. That's about it.
Got a big project lined up for next week - then thinking about heading up to the U.P of Michigan for some mountain biking and paddling for a week or so.
Yes I'm boring.....
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History
If you love history check out Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - I've downloaded all 17 podcasts available on iTunes and am loving every minute of each. Dan has really provided some great brain food on all sorts of topics but he really educated me on some details of WW2's Russian front that I find intriguing, along with their historical ramifications.
A fact. 7 out of every 8 Germans killed in WW2 were by the hands of the Russians. If Hitler would have bypassed the Eastern invasion it would have been very doubtful the Allies would have ousted the Nazi's from Western Europe. The human toll on both side were staggering on the more than 2000 mile Eastern Front. In fact, Stalin issued a decree that any Russian soldier who surrendered to the Germans would have his whole family imprisoned and himself executed upon his release. Yes, he carried out these actions with great gusto. Soviet prisoners released by the German's after the war were welcomed with either an all expense paid trip to the Gulag in Siberia or a bullet in the head. The Russians took few German prisoners......
The Eastern front was one of the most savage military campaigns the world has ever seen. The sacrifice America made during WW2 is a pittance compared to the Russians. I respect them for it. Got barbarism?
Everyone should listen to Dan Carlin's episodes on this subject. Few will take my advice I'm sure.

Bulging Baseball Boys
Really nice out! I plan to savor every breath I swallow on this fine afternoon. Had a long work day yesterday and on the way home decided to get a little take out and enjoy dinner in tranquil Iverson Park under some towering White Pines along the Plover River. It was nice. A baseball game was happening on the other side of the park and I wandered over after my meal to enjoy a few innings before retreating to my nest for the night. Perfect. It was a Pony League game, or at least that's what I call the boys league after Little League - the age group from 12 - 15 years old. Nothing too unusual going on until 2 ladies around 30'ish showed up and in quite good spirits. Most likely just coming from happy hour at one of the nearby bars. This is Stevens Point remember, drunkenness and debauchery are routine any day of the week.
Anyway.... They sit next to me and were talking away when one yells, "look at the bulge in the 3rd baseman's pants" Oh my! I almost choked on my raspberry ice tea. Everyone turns and looks and the Grandma on the top tier of the bleachers laughed so hysterically I thought she may have a cardiac arrest. Yes the 3rd baseman and most the other boys on the home team had some serious bulges that would even make Phat Tony envious. Extra large cup supporters were the standard issue for this team and they were very silly looking on these young lads. Some nice comic relief on a mundane Monday eve....... Ya had to be there.
One other observation about the players. Of the 30 or so boys NOT A ONE of them had any sort of a sun tan going on. Don't kids ever go outside anymore?
