Beaver Like

   Gearing up for some Winter camping.   My latest project involves converting a 15 gallon steel drum into a wood stove for my tent.     A cozy warm nest in the woods is the goal.   Anyone got a 15 gallon drum??

Deep deep deep into the Winter groove.   All is grooovy.  I think.   It's been cold and snowy and my mind has been blowy.   The callouses are thick on the finger tips.   Hair should be growing on the palms but is not.  
Radio propagation good.

Farewell Jim Fleming


  A bleak morning here in Central Wisconsin.   Cold, dark and snowy.    Got a little choked up a few minutes ago listening to long time Wisconsin Public Radio host Jim Fleming start his last shift on Morning Classics which airs weekdays from 9 to 11 AM.    Jim is retiring today after 41 years with WPR.       He will be greatly missed.  
I always found his voice warm and reassuring as he signed on at 9 AM and also really enjoyed his segments on To the Best of Our Knowledge.    A wonderful man.  Thanks Jim for your years of fine work.

Leave it to Beaver

   I sometimes explore one of the Facebook name generator apps, the one titled 'What is your farmer name' has had me giggling for days now.   Ever have some stupid things stick in your mind that for some odd reason you find amusing?       My farmer name is Clint Beaver.    It make me chuckle everytime I say it
.   Clint Beaver - Ha Ha Hee Ha Ha.   
I've always liked the name Clint and lord knows I like Beaver(s) so I guess it fits well.   Can't get it off my mind....       I've already got a pen name that I publish under.   Perhaps I need another.  

Think I'll go on a beaver hunt today.

Tranquility

I'm back in Pointski after over 3 months working out of town.    My first impression is how tranquil it is here.   All is calm and quiet here on the banks of the Wisconsin River.     A nice change of pace.    This years farming adventure was a bit of a challenge, nothing unusual, it always is.   It's over now.    I try to avoid writing about work and that's all I've been doing all Summer and Fall - so that's that.....

  On to the the pleasures of life and the next challenge.....
  My guitars await and the "Do Not Disturb" sign is out....
  Tranquility now.

Still Busy.... Still Well....

Not much has changed since my last post. Still busy doing Fall chores on the farm and working on some of the families properties in Southern Wisconsin. The farm has been a challenge this season because of the rain. The fields are too wet to do any significant harvesting so we are way behind schedule, bad news for this cowboy. Always work to do on the farm, it's soooo easy to be insanely busy. I enjoy it most the time. Both a physical and mental challenge which I find valuable for keeping this old man is great shape.

Had a B-day on October 24 which turned out to be a fun evening. The truth is I never told anyone it was my birthday because I HATE Birthdays - they are depressing. Another year gone by and it sucks. It was raining on the 24th so I decided to head to Madison and enjoy dinner with some friends and enjoy the sounds and sights of Wisconsin's state capital. Had not been there in awhile even though I'm only 30 minutes away for about 6 months of the year when I'm working in Southern Wisconsin. Nothing too amazing just a good night with 3 special ladies..... Ended up in Madtown a 2 more times that same week for more fun.

Yes I'm still working on a travelogue of my adventure to Missouri - can't seem to get motivated to pound out the story, rare for me, don't know why??

Getting a little tired of being away from home. Only been at my wonderful pad 12 hours in the last 3 months.

Good thing the world is my home.

Busy but Well

Good morning Beyonders. All is well in my little world just a little too busy to do much blogging. Took a break from the action from the 10th to 17th and had a really good week touring the Ozarks with my friend Johna. Stay tuned for a complete travelogue of our adventure - lots of cool sights and even some unexplained phenomenon to share.

Rainy today so maybe I'll have the time to do more writing.

Other than that just working like a fool. Lots to do before the snow flies.... The weather will need to cooperate a little more however.

Hazy Dazy coffee reflection

Rainy morning. Kind of like days like this when I have indoor work. Doing some laundry, drinking coffee and gearing up a bit for an upcoming roadtrip. A bit of work is planned for the afternoon - looking forward to making progress on the "project from hell" which is nearly completed.

I always work on Sundays. Today we resumed "The Project from Hell" the revamping of a 3 tiered retaining wall at the entrance of an underground parking garage at a building my Dad owns in Beloit. I helped build this wall some 25 years ago when originally constructed. The next stage involves laying down plastic and rocking around the extensive landscaping on the terraces of the wall. This involves shoveling 22 tons of washed rock. YES... 22 TONS (probably more) all by hand. Washed rock is difficult and heavy to handle at best (twice as heavy as gravel) I already removed about the same amount which was an even worse endeavor. Very labor intensive work. Good thing I'm used to doing the work of 2 men.

I always knew I'd be a Rock Star but this is not exactly what I had in mind. No I'm not In Back of Beyond at the moment.....

Nice Days

Wow! What run of nice weather!
A bit cooler today but still wonderful. A lull in the action has allowed time for a few car related chores and even a nice walk along the Rock River. Not even close to being worked to physical exhaustion this afternoon - not typical. No complaints by me.
